what to expect from your first axe throwing experienceAs you can guess from our name, we at Patriot Axe Throwing are passionate about the sport of axe throwing. We are firm believers in its recreational appeal and team-building power, and we want to help expand its fan base and allow more and more people to experience it for themselves. Our team does recognize, however, that axe throwing is an unfamiliar and even intimidating activity to many people. To help combat that intimidation, in this article, we’ll be going over what to expect from your first axe throwing experience, including the basics of how it’s done.

If this is your first time axe throwing with us, our team will provide a free 30-minute lesson on safety and technique so that you can enjoy this unique activity without worrying about injuring yourself. Our facility at Patriot Axe Throwing also has plenty of axes for you to use—though many people who try this sport enjoy it enough to buy their own axe for future visits. The basic technique of axe throwing is pretty simple, and consists of the following three steps:

  1. Grip the axe handle firmly but without squeezing, with your dominant hand on top.
  2. Raise the axe behind and above your head, gently rocking back on your dominant foot and keeping the blade pointed toward the target.
  3. To throw, step forward with your non-dominant foot and extend your arms forward. As you extend, release the axe while keeping your wrists in line with your forearms.

We at Patriot Axe Throwing hope that this information helps you get ready for your first axe throwing session so that you can more thoroughly enjoy yourself. If you have more questions about what to expect, just give us a call.
