Like all skills, axe throwing requires practice to get better at. However, that doesn’t mean that just throwing an axe repeatedly without making any deliberate effort will help you hone your skills. If you’re looking for a little more direction when it comes to improving your axe throwing skills, be sure to check out these helpful tips.
- Watch your stance. Keeping a solid stance is crucial when it comes to throwing an axe with accuracy. You’ll want to engage your entire body when you throw your axe. Doing so will increase your accuracy and precision. You’ll also find that some gentle back-and-forth rocking while aligning yourself with your target increases accuracy.
- Loosen your grip. A grip that’s too tight discourages accuracy by affecting what’s called the release point of your throw. A lighter grip focused on a “flicking” motion rather than brute strength will improve your axe throwing skills. Finding the right balance between strength and grip is difficult and will take time, but it helps to know what kind of grip to strive for.
- Don’t get too fancy. When it comes to axe throwing, you’ll have a better chance of hitting the target if you keep your throw simple and eliminate any extra movements. This is because being able to replicate each throwing attempt is important for building good habits and improving accuracy.
